About Jen
You've seen the type: a little bit spunky, a little bit red-head, a lot enthusiastic. Yep, exactly.
Jen is a writer, a professor, a coxswain, and a PhD student. She focuses on screenplays, in-depth profiles, was the host of the Ten Minute Play Workshop podcast, and is the co-creator of Coxing Magazine. She also developed The Flashback Files (she started The Flashback Files as a craft seminar paper at Queens University, one of the final requirements for her MFA in Creative Writing; large thanks go to Hal Ackerman for being the academic advisor for The Files).
By day, Jen is a college writing professor and a PhD student at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research focuses on learning writing skills in high-intensity training environments, testing the efficacy of peer review versus AI-informed-revision as feedback mechanisms. Jen is also a frequent contributor to Rowing Magazine.
As a writer, Jen seeks the inside of the story, the part of the person that wants to be told, wants to be known, but often isn't revealed. Over the past eleven years, she's developed a method of interviewing that allows her to dig in and get to the heart of the person. That's what she likes to write about: the heart of the person.
